As with Smart Way, PiE thoroughly covers all of the letter and sound relationships, the basic and customary reading words, over 200 of the most common spelling patterns and systematic comprehension and reading fluency strategies.
At the end of each lesson the student completes a Skills Review and receives a Certificate of Achievement prior to moving on to the next gradient of study.
There is an Illustrated Dictionary, covering all of the words located in the first 11 lessons, that opens in a new window and is always available for use. As well, a link to the Webster's Student's Dictionary is provided.
It has been proven highly effective to teach or remediate reading skills in students of all ages. On average, almost 90% of low-achieving students participating in a PiE reading program have moved from the 25th to the 50th percentile in reading skills in about 35 hours of instruction.
